"Trust in Institutions and Subjective Intergenerational Social Mobility"

How does trust in institutions affect attitudes toward intra- and inter-generational social mobility? Why do some individuals expect their children to have a harder time climbing up the socioeconomic ladder than themselves? Using the Korean Social Integration Survey from 2013 to 2019 covering over 52,000 respondents, this paper shows that trust in institutions and positive evaluations on democracy and the current political situation leads to positive prospect for intra- and inter-generational upward social mobility.
